DC Doodles 1

If there's anything I've learned, it's that art is like a muscle. And if you don't use it enough, you lose it. And as of recently; work, travel, and getting sick...this all adds to the troubles of losing it.

So it's been awhile since I've felt in the groove working on art, so I sat down and just started doing quick warmup doodles. Stuff that probably takes like 10 or 20 minutes (or less), just to hack it out and warmup the ol' art muscle. Quick blueline rough and then straight to drawing it in ink.

Hope to make this a semi-regular thing, grabbing whatever scratchpaper I have handy and doodle whatever comes to mind down. And then share here for all the tomatoes and insults

First up is this piece...

I've been dying to do a fun lil Penguin drawing. Trying to push and pull and exagerate my linework the more I can...to experiment and see what works and what doesn't. It's no surprise that I'm hugely inspired by all the various Batman animated artists out there (Timm, Murakami, Glines, Cooke, etc). Toss in people like Cheeks, Mignola, Ben Caldwell, and Jeff Smith; and there you have a mixed pot of awesomeness. So that's always been my love of the animated style as a starting point and hopefully have it inch towards something a little more recognizable of my own.
Anyways with Penguin, I see him as looking as close to his namesake as possible. Would be fun to see him around 3 feet or so in height...real small in comparison to Batman's shadowy form looming over him. His hat, almost as big as he is. Really play up his cartooniness and size.

And with Mister Freeze, I probably can't go very long in the day without wanting to draw him. Make him more machine than man. Add on some type of wrist gauntlet ability to shoot a crazy blizzard out of one hand (for distraction/escape purposes), while the other hand is free to shoot that ice gun of his. Fun right?

So there ya have it. More doodles in the future coming. As well as some finished pieces.
