I grew up a fan of WWF wrestling back in the 80s and 90s. The wrestlers had such flamboyant personas that felt like comic book characters sprung to life. I have fond memories of that time, watching matches on Saturday mornings and evenings with Saturday Night’s Main Event, the pay-per-view events, spending many quarters playing the WWF Superstars arcade game, and even attending some matches when they came to town. So when BOOM got the license to do new comics, I was excited to have the opportunity to contribute to those “Legends” I grew up watching. For the launch of their new title WWE Then Now Forever #1, I wrote and drew a “Legends” backup story starring…Tugboat! I always appreciated the fun loving and good-natured wrestler, and thought it appropriate to try to draw the story as an homage to the old Fleischer black & white styled Popeye cartoons. Check it out when the first issue debuts this week!
Somehow the Popeye homage fits Tugboat. ESPECIALLY Quakemuffin as Bluto. Whoulda thunk in a short time they'd be tagging together?
And you'll be seeing another story with the two of them in that very capacity in the near future.
This is beautiful, D. I was a wrestling kid too. I remember not liking Tugs or Earthquake back then, but when I watch their old stuff now, it's pure nostalgia.
This is cute. I wouldn't mind reading a comic like this.
I love you.
This is just beautiful! Colors are truly great
Well this looks awesome! ^^
