The downside (and a kick in the guts if there ever was one).... during the taxi service from the airport to the Westin Hotel next to the convention center, my portfolio of original art was lost.
I am normally extremely careful when it comes to the possession and transportation of my artwork. But upon arrival at the hotel, I was immediately pounced upon by the hotel bellhop who kept talking and insisting on taking our bags, even when told not to. While explaining to him that his services weren't required and I was waiting for my roommate to finish paying the driver, he still proceeded to lift a container out of the trunk, resulting in the handle snapping off of it, which he sheepishly handed back to me, and he proceeded to close the trunk before I had a chance to make sure everything was out of the cab before it drove off. Since we had just arrived late in the evening, we checked into the hotel, grabbed a quick bite, and turned in for the night, only to find the next morning that I didn't have my portfolio and it had been left in the trunk. I ultimately take responsibility for my own item, but it wasn't without the distraction perpetrated by the bellhop.
During that weekend, I'd attempted multiple times to contact the cab service and the airport dispatch from where the cab originated, had been in contact with various phone numbers for drivers working around the time that it occured, as well as the hotel lost and found (in the offchance it ever got brought back), and nothing has turned up.
I've reported it with the Charlotte Police Department, and awaiting a case #. But am also getting the word out there to as many people as possible (including art dealers, shops, and anyone else).

Yes. I am a Christian. But I am also not afraid to admit I am flawed.
I am so sorry to hear about the missing art. I am forwarding the link to my website/twitter and will ask my friends to pass it on as well. You obviously knew the art was missing when I spoke to you, but you were so upbeat and positive [even in this terrible situation].
My buddies really liked the Batman, Zatana & Demon sketches that you did for them. I also dig my Cosmo/Stallone sketch.
I hope your art is returned to you.
